Using Restorative Practices to Eliminate the School-to-Prison Pipeline

This session will share the action research and success of a Central Texas Discipline Alternative Education Program (DAEP) after making a conscious decision to use restorative practices in order to increase academic success, reduce recidivism, decrease discipline center placements, and improve the parent-student-school partnership.

Objectives
  • Participants will learn how we used quantitative and qualitative data to build a shared mission and vision, on common values, to shape campus culture that supported student academic and behavioral success, stakeholder engagement, and restorative practices.  
  • Participants will learn the importance of leadership quality in regards to implementing restorative practices and changing fixed mindsets to growth mindsets.    
  • Participants will leave with the strategies, insights, tools, and resources to implement and reproduce the same results on any campus.  
  • Participants will learn how to collaborate and effectively use Restorative Justice to create a safe campus and organization climate
